Easiest Fall Economy Block | The Easiest Way to Use Up Fabric Stash & Scraps

Hi Reader,

When it comes to the holidays, my primary rule is 'Keep It Simple'! While I may only follow it the first few months, it's a good rule. Until I see what else is out there to create and I want to make it all! πŸ˜‚ So I'm changing my approach this year...again.

Use simple blocks that go together fast and easy! Here's how I'm deciding which blocks to choose.

First, it must be a block I can easily make scrappy. This way I can use fabric I already have which saves me money. I prefer to buy my Christmas fabrics in Jan when they are on sale!

Second, it shouldn't demand lots of attention with intricate piecing. It needs to be quick to cut, sew, and quilt! This way I can chain piece blocks quickly and put them together fast. Plus the HSTs in this pattern are the easiest you'll every make!

Third, it can be easily adjusted into different sizes. This way the same block can be used for small gifts and also enlarged for bigger pillows, wall-hangings, and quilts. Then once I make the block a couple times, it will become easier for me to assemble. That'll save me extra time, too! Now that's I've made three and love this pattern, I have a Christmas plan for a table runner!

Finally, it needs to have an appealing design that's interesting to look at and fun to make. Any ideas about what you tend to choose?

I'll be interested to hear what blocks may come to mind for you. My ideal block may be this one I'm sharing today. I've made it twice before and was excited to try it in fall colors. This is definitely a winner! These Hoffman Bali Batik Fabrics in autumn colors are gorgeous together. I'm already excited about making another for Christmas but as a table runner.

My spring version below is the first Super-Sized Economy Block Hot Pad I made last year. It's been a popular pattern and video and I thought you may enjoy seeing it again.

Hi Reader, My Potato Chip Panel Quilt is finally finished and I think you'll love it! This video brings all the steps together. You'll see how the panels are assembled around the large center floral wreath. There were a few tricks needed to get it all to fit evenly. These 'modifications' only improved the final layout resulting in a wonderful finished quilt top! There is one last step before I can get this one quilted. I have enough fabric for a border on just one side. The border will be on...

Hi Reader, This panel potato chip quilt is looking fabulous and I'm so close to being finished. Have you ever had a quilt just about finished only to find a mistake that HAD to be fixed? I have a couple from a few years ago that are still sitting on the shelf waiting for me to get the mistakes corrected. But for this faux-pas (a really big mistake!) I was determined to make the block usable! This video is a step-by-step tutorial for fixing a common mistake we all probably encounter at some...

Hi Reader, Ready for a super simple baby quilt? Today's quilt is a remake of of a pattern from a couple years ago which has been quite popular. My new quilt has lots more color and is made a bit larger. While the Kaffe Fassett fabrics look awesome, the Ombres make all the difference! It's a fun combination for this quilt. My favorite aspect about this pattern is how different these quilts turned out. Yes, they are both made with wide strips, but color certainly changes the look! Now I'm...
