Hi Reader, This has to be the FASTEST method to create an adorable scrappy baby quilt in just minutes! Youโll be amazed how quickly you can turn 100 charm squares into an awesome quilt faster than you ever thought possible! Not enough charm squares on hand? Check out these 100 count charm packs in assorted solids & prints. Luckily my leftover charm pile was overflowing. So much so I should have enough to make four twin size quilts with this pattern! I'm excited to them finished, though that video will be coming later. The demo in this quilting tutorial video is a baby quilt made with 100 charm squares. Four large blocks are made with 25-charms each. They are then cut into smaller blocks, rearranged, and joined together for a 44-inch square quilt top. Perfect for a baby quilt! The beauty is that you can keep sewing 25-patch blocks and joining them together until you get the quilt size you want. While this quilt is made from leftover charm squares, you can certainly use charm packs if you're looking for a specific colorway. For a larger quilt, you can use layer cakes, cut them into four 5-inch squares and your ready to start quilting. Most of my quilts come from fat quarter bundles. Rarely do I use a single line of fabric in a quilt. Mixing lots of fabrics together is my favorite way of creating a quilt. So I'll cut what I need from a fat quarter bundle, then the rest are cut into the precut sizes I use most often. If you're interested in cutting your own precuts, my post How to Cut a Fat Quarter for Quilting has a tutorial to do just that. You may also download my Free PDF Fat Quarter Cutting Guide with cutting layouts for different precuts. Be sure you also check out my post, How to Make the Fastest Baby Quilt. There is a complete tutorial for making a baby quilt using the method in today's video. Included is a step-by-step tutorial for making the blocks and assembling the quilt. There's also another variation of this method you may enjoy that is in a completely different colorway. Take a look at How to Choose the Right Quilt Backing Fabric for what I would consider a southwest color scheme...in a bright sort of way. This one I actually used a layer cake and crosscut it into 5-inch charms and used the same layout. It turned out great! This tutorial also includes some backing fabric ideas. I have a lot ahead of me with these twin quilts to work on. Fortunately they are simple and go together easily. There is a chance I may need to cut more charms to finish them. Luckily there's always another basket of scrap fabrics to dig into! Keep watching and see how they turn out. In the meantime, enjoy your quilting. I hope this fun quilt idea gets you inspired to make a special quilt for someone, maybe even for yourself! Thanks so much for following along. Have a great rest of your week! Hi Reader, No sooner do I get close to finishing a quilt than another idea grabs my attention. Hi Reader, There are three quilt block techniques that always get quilters excited. First is a rag quilt, most likely because they are very easy and don't require traditional quilting. That makes them a perfect quilting-for-beginners choice. Second is the disappearing 9-patch. The initial block is a simple 9-patch which is then cut into multiple pieces and rearranged into some very interesting designs. Third is the potato chip block. It's definitely been a favorite of mine, too! The allure...
Hi Reader, Is anyone else besides me getting lots of quilting done? Are you making any special projects for Valentine's Day? Check out my pretty pink Chenille Heart Pillow article on the website. It's a quick 'show-the-love' finish that you can still squeeze in before the big day! The Valentine's Day pillows I made this month are quite pretty. Two use a chenille trim, but there's an amazing shortcut that I just discovered! The other is a French Rose Rag Quilt Pillow which is rosy and bright!...
