FABULOUS Fresh Quilting Techniques

Hi Reader,

Do you tend to gravitate to a favorite quilt pattern or are you always looking for a new favorite pattern to make? If you remake a quilt pattern, do you change it up or keep to the original design? It's such my nature to stick to the basics and modify until it becomes something new, yet retain the same original idea. Does that make sense?

When I create a pattern I enjoy, I tend to go back and remake it multiple times. Though with each new quilt comes some new ideas to improve on the original pattern. Creating these modifications is my favorite part of quilting. It's about coming up with a fantastic pattern that is versatile enough to appeal to most quilters. Plus, since I work with simple blocks that are quickly made, the results are usually a very easy pattern that looks awesome!

All that to say, this is the 4 year story behind my Layer Cake Walk Quilt Pattern.

Here's my most recent version from Christmas. This was the design that prompted me to write the 'Layer Cake Walk' quilt pattern. Though the two recent quilts just released this week showcase the pattern's design potential the most.

This is my first new quilt in a couple months! Thanks so much for staying with me. ๐Ÿค— My sewing room is coming together. There may be a before/after video in the near future. The before is the easy part, it's the after that has me concerned! ๐Ÿ˜‚

We've been back in our house since mid-November. There are still a few repairs left to do, so we have workers stopping by from time to time. Fortunately my husband is Mr. Fix-it and is doing amazing things to get everything back together.

Thank you all for your support during this crazy time. We've lived in a camper, three hotels, 2 rental homes, and are now finally back home. ๐Ÿฅณ

The biggest disappointment is that our fridge leaks when the ice maker is on, and the dishwasher won't dispense the soap. Yes, I know these are just minor inconveniences, but they weren't even affected by the hurricane. We'd only bought them 2-3 years ago and I'd really hoped we could just move back in our home and pick up where we left off. So I keep thinking about all we've been blessed with this past year and how fortunate we are compared to so many others. Thank you for indulging me in a bit of whining. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

There are still a few months of work ahead for us. We'll be working outside when it gets a bit warmer. The yard was torn up from the trees as well as the 90-foot crane that came in to pull the biggest tree out of our house. That left the yard full of holes and deep tire tracks. The worst though is now we have a ton of fire ants! But that's all fixable. Fortunately we are retired and have the time to work on these projects. Again, more blessings!

I'm so excited to be quilting again. Much of my fabric was packed away as I thought we'd only be gone for a few months. Well, now it's like Christmas as I rediscover my fabrics and get excited about all the quilt ideas I have!

Again, thank you for being there supporting my online presence and being wonderful friends. It's meant so much to know you're following along. Until our visit next week, keep safe and healthy!

Hi Reader, No sooner do I get close to finishing a quilt than another idea grabs my attention. Oh, Happy Spring! ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒผ I've gathered my floral fabrics for some upcoming spring quilts....

Hi Reader, There are three quilt block techniques that always get quilters excited. First is a rag quilt, most likely because they are very easy and don't require traditional quilting. That makes them a perfect quilting-for-beginners choice. Second is the disappearing 9-patch. The initial block is a simple 9-patch which is then cut into multiple pieces and rearranged into some very interesting designs. Third is the potato chip block. It's definitely been a favorite of mine, too! The allure...
