Quilt Inspiration Awaits: Charm Squares to Spectacular Quiltsโค

Hi Reader,

Will you be quilting for Valentine's Day? I have some wonderful fabric for a lovely sweetheart quilt. It's still in the planning stages. I just need to decide what it'll be. In the meantime I'm working with some fat quarters and a pile of scrap fabrics to make a new spring version of my 'In Flying Color' Quilt. You can see my recent quilt made with this pattern on my blog, #1 SECRET to the BEST Disappearing 9-Patch Block.

There are two videos for my new quilt. This one below which was released yesterday. I figured most of us were having a snow day, so what better way to spend our day than with some quilting ideas!

Today's follow up video demonstrates step-by-step how to make the scrappy flying geese block. It's a fun disappearing 9-patch quilt block with a very distinctive look. Be sure to check it out!

If you are still looking for more ideas, this video below features a perfect choice for a Valentine's Day quilt. It's made with the Confetti pattern. The soft pink and rose colors are gorgeous mixed with the green fabrics. This is one of my all-time favorite color combinations.

Favor please. Something affected last week's email from being delivered to about half of my email list. It would be helpful to me if you checked your spam folder for any of my emails. If you want to continue receiving my emails, simply open it and mark it as not spam. You can also easily unsubscribe with the link below. I don't want to clutter your inboxes with emails.

How do you shop for fabric? Do you go ready with a list of exactly what you need? Or do you shop with the intent of finding inspiration when you see just the right fabric? Trying to find that one fabric I need to complete my quilt is very challenging for me. Which is probably why I tend to prefer fat quarter bundles. With a handful of coordinating fabrics, it's then very easy for me to grab plenty more fabric from my scarp piles (yes, that plural PILES)!

As a scrappy quilter, it's all about the fabric! When I pull a pile of fabrics together the inspiration flies around in my head. It's hard to remember all the ideas that go through my mind, so I try to write them down when I can. Which is why my work table is surrounded with scraps of 'idea-notes'. Eventually they get transcribed into outdated calendars for easier reference.

The key is that I buy outdated planners which means the prices are marked down, even cheaper than lined journals. They are sturdy and ideal for writing notes and sketching ideas. My current preference is the large 8" x 11" spiral bound books with beautiful, color-filled covers and pages. My favorites are the ones with lots of pretty pictures throughout the pages. Especially if it's watercolor art and florals!

The 2026 calendar prices are already being reduced and there are still plenty to choose from. Here are some of my favorites plus the Best Price I found for a planner. So take a peek and see if one inspires you to start putting your quilting ideas down on paper. It's the best way to get motivated when you need a quick idea to get started! If you enjoy looking at 'eye-candy' fabric, check these out, too!

One last item to share. Art Gallery Fabrics recently sent out an email with their newest fabrics. While they are all beautiful, the AGS Stillwater Fabric Collection is absolutely stunning. If you haven't visited AGS online, they have idea books for each line of fabric they sell. There are often free patterns to download, too. Here's the Stillwater Fabric Lookbook that shows lots of project ideas as well as multiple free patterns. Plus watch their quick tutorial for these beautiful Stillwater Linen Towels. If like me, you can't get enough, here's the AGS Stillwater Blog Post introducing the fabric line with closeups of each fabric. Such fun!

Also, here's a quick reminder about this month's Fat Quarter Shop Sales if you're looking for bargains. The daily flash sale had a couple items I ordered last week that just arrived. That's actually my new Valentine's Day fabric I'll be using! I can't wait to get started and show you! โค

Don't Miss The Fat Quarter Shop's December Specials!

Thank you so much for joining me today and letting me share my quilting thoughts and ideas with you. I know many of you are dealing with difficult winter weather right now. Keep warm and stay safe! Have a great week and find some time to spend with your fabrics ๐Ÿ˜Šโœ‚๐Ÿงต.

Hi Reader, There are three quilt block techniques that always get quilters excited. First is a rag quilt, most likely because they are very easy and don't require traditional quilting. That makes them a perfect quilting-for-beginners choice. Second is the disappearing 9-patch. The initial block is a simple 9-patch which is then cut into multiple pieces and rearranged into some very interesting designs. Third is the potato chip block. It's definitely been a favorite of mine, too! The allure...
